According to Business Inners, the byte beat program launched a stand-alone version of CapCut US for United States users, which is considered an important response to the TikTok ban under the United States Protection of Americans from Foreign Counterpart Control Applications Act to meet data security requirements and maintain operations on the United States market.

CapCut (Clip) is a byte bytes video editing application that was launched in 2019, first developed for the Chinese market and then published globally in April 2020 under CapCut brand (formerly Viamaker). As a sister product of TikTok, CapCut quickly became the world ‘ s preferred tool for short video creators, with a simple and user-friendly interface, AI-driven editorial functions (e.g., automatic subtitles, background removal, movement tracking) and deep integration with TikTok.

By March 2023, CapCut was over 200 million live users, Google Play had over 1 billion downloads in January 2025 and had been the second largest download application for App Store in the United States, after Temu, ahead of Instagram and YouTube. In April 2024, the United States passed an Act requiring byte beats to be removed from TikTok United States operations by 19 January 2025, otherwise TikTok and other applications under the byte beat flag (including CapCut) would face a national ban. TikTok appealed unsuccessfully to the United States Supreme Court, which upheld the Act in early 2025. CapCut is also covered by regulation because of the byte beat of the parent company with TikTok.

CapCut US will optimize its response to U.S. user needs and may include localised data storage (e.g. through Oracle Clouds), provisions consistent with U.S. privacy regulations, and deep integration with the U.S. version of TikTok. The new version aims to alleviate the United States Government’s concerns about data security through technical isolation and local operations, similar to TikTok’s Project Textas programme. It was reported that the “CapCut US” was expected to go online on 5 September 2025 and that users in the United States would need to download the version to continue to use CapCut, and that the current global version of App was expected to be available until March 2026.
